When Talking Isn’t Enough: How IEMT Works Beyond Words

Many people come to therapy expecting to talk through their experiences in detail. Sometimes that can be helpful, but for many - dropping back into the past or a painful current life situation can feel too much - too overwhelming and too demanding.
This is often where IEMT (Integral Eye Movement Therapy) can be so effective. With this gentle protocol, rather than focusing on analysing the story - IEMT works with the memories, feelings and identity that the experience has left behind or is currently being experienced. It gently helps the nervous system to release patterns that may have been carried for years - sometimes without us even realising.
I have seen clients experience meaningful shifts in areas such as:
• Anxiety and persistent worry
• Memories that still feel emotionally charged
• Low confidence or self-doubt
• Shame, guilt or imposter syndrome
What I value most about IEMT is that it is respectful of the body’s timing - our body knows where it stores tension, and when this first occured. IEMT takes us to the root - and swiftly. Common outcomes are that clients leave sessions feeling lighter, clearer, and more settled within themselves.
This occurs not because the past has been erased, but because the memories and feelings get a chance to be resolved in the here and now through the dual processing of focusing briefly on the memory or feeling whilst moving your eyes in a particular patterned sequence.
If you have ever felt that you have talked something through many times but still feel the weight of it in your body, then this approach may be worth exploring. Email me to arrange a suitable time to have a short video chat if you would like to find out more. I offer sessions both in person here on the Isle of Sheppey and online via Zoom.
